Carrie Perez

Hi there! My name is Carrie Perez, and I am the School Counselor and an Administrator at Journey School. I am a Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA), and also a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern (LPC-Intern), supervised by Naomi Berger-Perez, LPC-Supervisor. I grew up in The Woodlands and received both a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Special Education from Sam Houston State University. I enjoy spending time with my husband, our 2 dogs (Groot and Dino), and our families. I also love eating paleo food, watching movies, and being outside. My passion for working with children with different abilities and their families started in 2008 when I volunteered at a summer camp serving children with special needs and their siblings. I connected with a family I met at camp and worked as an in-home respite provider for them and various other families with children with different abilities in The Woodlands throughout college. Prior to Journey School, I was the Director of Behavioral Health at a neurodevelopmental follow-up clinic serving children born preterm and/or with a chronic medical condition. My goal is to help children and their families thrive by cultivating a connection with students through understanding them, while promoting confidence in their abilities to develop their strengths and manage their challenges successfully. I am also passionate about helping our students build peer relationships and adapt to community settings using effective coping strategies to encourage children and parents to feel comfortable getting involved and participating in functionally appropriate everyday activities. Ultimately, helping our students to better understand the world they live in and empowering them to live as purposefully and wonderfully as God created them to be.
